November 4, 2015 changed our lives forever due to the untimely death of our son Dr. Eric Charles Crabtree. Through God’s help we were determined to not allow our intense grief to govern our future here on earth. Adversity has a purpose and God wants to use us for His plan and the benefit of others. Eric came from a family who believed helping others isn’t a burden, rather an opportunity. The question for us became how do we heal, carry on, and help others. We wanted to attempt to heal and yet not forget our great love for Eric and the wonderful memories.
In our life time we have found it very therapeutic to share gifts of time and money with others. No better feeling than giving from your heart to bring hope and health to others and thus help heal our own broken heart. We started to search options to remember our son and those in need. We wanted a way to help make Eric’s life valid and productive not only in living but also in remembrance. We began discussion about our thoughts with our children and their spouses. Emily Crabtree, LACF Executive Director, who is also our daughter- in -law, educated our family on a Donor Advised Fund as a vehicle to accomplish our desire and need for healing. We weren’t looking for a tax shelter but a way to be a benevolent giver as we remember a generous loving person. We want our lives to be remembered as a giver rather than a taker. The DAF allows our entire family to be a part of the fund, not only in giving to it but also in the process of giving from it. Do all the good you can
By all the means you can In all the ways you can In all the places you can At all the times you can To all the people you can As long as you can - John Wesley – Bob and Leah Crabtree
